Ayurveda Treatments

Pizhichil

 

The patient would be examined by the doctor and the oil to be used would be prescribed. The oil would be slightly heated. A clean cloth bundle would be kept ready. The patient would be made to lie down in a wooden container which is the size of the average human body. The bundle of cloth would be dipped into the heated oil and then squeezed slowly. Then the experienced masseur would knead the bundle all over the body of the patient. It would be done slowly so that the oil may spread equally with the same amount of heat and then briskly. The patients head should not sweat during this pizhicil treatment. This Pizhicil / Squeezing treatment would generally lasts for a period of 7 to 21 days for about 60 to 90 minutes per day. The patient is guided to follow a certain routine for these days to obtain maximum benefit from the pizhicil treatment. This Pizhicil treatment is very useful for rheumatic diseases like arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegia, paralysis , sexual weakness, nervous weakness and nervous disorders etc.

 

Njavarakzhi

In this ayurvedic treatment process medicated rice (Njavara rice) in the form of boluses tied in muslin bags are applied externally. The boluses are dipped in mixture of milk and a brewed herbal decoction, and then applied all over the body to induce sudation. Njavarakizhi is carried out by two to four therapists for about 60 to 90 minutes a day for a period of 7 to 14 days. This procedure is highly rejuvenating, nourishing and prepares the individual to bear the stresses and strains of a busy lifestyle. It enhances physical consistency, strengthens the nervous system and improves the overall appearance of the skin. This ayurveda treatment is largely employed in the ayurvedic treatment of neurological disorders, chronic rheumatism, arthritis, degenerative diseases, malnutrition of limbs and recovery from broken bones. Njavarakizhi is very effective in polio and paralysis.

 
 

Sirodhara

 

'sira' means head and 'dhara' is the continues flow. This ayurveda treatment is a continuous flow of oil on the body of the patient. Sirodhara is a cold massage. Dhara uses oils as well as some concoctions. Sirodhara is carried out, by using a pot having a yarn wick fitted into the hole. This pot would be hanged over the wooden vessel in which the patient is lying. The medications would be poured into the pot and the liquid would be gradually trickled onto the head. The herbal oils, medicated milk, medicated butter milk etc., form the portions of medications and it would be carried out for about 40 minutes in a day for a period of 7 to 21 days. This treatment is very effective for people suffering with insomnia, loss of memory, head aches, migraine, mental tension and certain skin diseases.

 

Vasthi

Otherwise known as "medical enema" vasthi is a therapeutic procedure in which certain herbal oils, herbal extracts etc., are applied through the rectum daily for a period of 5 to 25 days. This ayurveda treatment is effective for arthritis, paralysis, hemiplegia, numbness, gastric complaints, rheumatism and chronic constipation.

 
 

Sirovasthi

 

Certain lukewarm herbal oils are poured into a cap fitted on the head and held or 15 to 60 minutes per day according to the patients conditions for a period of 7 days. This treatment is highly effective for facial paralysis, dryness of nostrils, mouth and throat, severe head aches and other diseases of the head.

 

Udvarthanam

This ayurveda treatment is otherwise known as powder massage. This is found very effective in obesity hemiplegia, paralysis, skin diseases, impaired circulation etc. and similar kapha predominant diseases. In this procedure certain special herbal powders are applied by 2 therapist in a peculiar way on the body for about 30 to 40 minute daily for a period of 14 to 28 days.

 
 

Abhayangam

 

This is a special type of oil massage in which strokes are given according to the circulatory channels for 45 minutes per day for 14 days. This ayurvedic treatment is very useful for obesity, loss of skin texture, sleeplessness, fatigue, other vata predominant diseases etc.

 

Dhanyamladhara

Dhanyamlam is a medicated liquid prepared by boiling rice, lemon, dry ginger, horse gram, millets in a blended piece of linen and immersed in a large water pot for 7 days continuously. Procedure: This liquid is poured pored over the patient’s body for 45 minutes with the help of 2 masseurs Indication : Rheumatoid arthritis, Inflammatory conditions, Muscular sprain, Obesity, Thyroidism, Chrome fever


 
 

Choornapindasweda (Podi Kizhi)

Choornapinda is a bolus/potali with dry medicated powder sudation with this bolus is called choorna pinda sweda. This is done for 45 minutes with the help of two masseurs. Medicinal Powders of choice: Kottamchukkaathi choornam., Kolakulathyadi choornam. Indication : stroke victims, Osteo arthritis, Muscular aches and pains.


 
 

Jambeerapindasweda (Naranga Kizhi)

Jambeera pinda is a medicated bolus prepared with lemon and herbal medicines. Sudation with this bolus is called Jambeera Pinda Sweda. This is done for 45 minutes with the help of 2 masseurs. Indications : Sciatica, Gout, Cervical and lumbar spondylitis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Stiffness and swelling of joints. Muscular stiffness and cramps.


 
 

Kadeevasthi

Kateevasthi is an ayurveda treatment in which specially prepared warm medicated oil hold for about 45 minutes within a boundary made of herbal paste over the lower back. This is a unique herbal treatment for spinal disorders, back pain, lumbar spondylosis, degenerative inter vertebral disc prolapse, sciatica etc..

 
 

Ksheeradhara

This is a treatment where by the lukewarm medicated milk is made to flow in a slow consistent rate over the forehead for a particular duration mostly overt the glabella region or the whole body with simultaneous soft massage The benefits of Ksheeradhara are for proper blood circulation of the body and relaxation of the mind, as well as lubricating the joints, relieving pain, Sparms and stiffness of the muscles and joints.


 
 

Ksheeradhooma

Ksheeradhoomam, as the name indicates, is a special treatment procedure where the patient is treated with the dhooma or steam coming from the heated medicated milk through a tube. It is indicated in Facial palsies, speech disorders, ptoris or leavator pulpebral muscle palsy etc.


 
 

Lepa (Lepanam)

Lepanam is the application of medicated herbal paste on body parts.. It is very effective in inflammatory conditions and is also good for skin diseases. Lepanam is used for improving skin complexion, in pain management. The thickness of the paste depends on the need of a particular condition. It has to be removed before the paste dries. Lepana should be avoided in patients sensitive to heat and having a sensitive skin.


 
 

Mamsakizhi

Also known as Mamsapinda sweda is a nourishing therapy, which is performed in diseases related to bones, muscles and nerves.. Mamsa means meat (usually goat’s meat). Sweda is sudation. So the sudation given by using a bolus which prepared by using mamsa along with medicated rice is mamsakizhi.


 
 

Pathrapotala Sweda

Pathrapotala Sweda or Elakizhi means sudation using herbal leaves.. It is highly effective in diseases related to bones, joints and nervous system. Benefits: Improves blood circulation, relieves stiffness and pain, improve muscle strength, improves skin complexion. Indications: Arthritis, Myalgia, Spondylosis, Neurological, Sports injuries, Neurological disorders.


 
 

Pichu

It is one among the ayurvedic treatments. . Pichu is used as a effective method to treat the ailments of head, spine and disease of cranial nerves. In this treatment medicated warm oil is applied on the local area which is affected.


 
 

Pizhichil

It is one of the common forms of keraleeya Ayurveda chikistsa.. It is the procedure in which streams of lukewarm medicated oil is poured on the whole body or the affected area with simultaneous. It is indicated in rheumatic complaints, neurological disorders & paralysis. It is rejuvenates the body, nourishes the skin, relaxing the blood pressure.


 
 

Shashtikapinda Sweda

Njavarakizhi is one of the ayurvedic treatments. The treatment is termed so as njavara rice is the main ingredient in the preparation. The cleared njavara rice is boiled in a mixture of milk and decoction. It is then tied in a suitable cloth and made in to a bolus. The bolus is then applied over the body by dipping in the warm mixture of milk and decoction in intermittently. Before njavara we can apply oil over the body and can do gentle massage. The treatment helps in strengthening the nerves, relieving arthritis and curing neurological complaints. It nourishes the tissues, soften the skin and enhances complexion. Advise in certain diseases like hemiplegia, facial paralysis, muscular atrophy etc.


 
 

Sirodhara

It is a form of ayurvedic therapy that involves gently pouring liquids over the forehead.. The name comes from the Sanskrit words Shiro (Head) and Dhara (flow). The liquids used in shirodhara depend on what is being treated, but can include oil, milk, buttermilk etc. It has been used to treat diseases like eye disease, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, neurological disorder insomnia, tinnitus, Meniere disease and certain types of skin diseases like psoriasis.


 
 

Siropichu

It is a specialized Ayurveda therapy in which a piece of cloth or cotton soaked with medicated oil is applied to the head for 30-45 minutes in a special manner.. It is indicated for facial palsy, headache, Insomnia, Dermatisis of scalp, dandruff, neurological diseases, paralysis and psychosomatic illnesses.


 
 

Sirovasthy

In this therapy warm medicated oil is retained over the head for a certain amount of time in a closely fitted leather cap, thus allowing the scalp to soak in a therapeutic oil. .This treatment is highly effective for diseases like anxiety, facial paralysis, insomnia, neurological disorders, psychological disorders, eczema and disease of eye and ENT problems.


 
 

Thakradhara

The word takra means buttermilk, dhara with medicated butter milk is called as takradhara..This ayurvedic treatment method which involves continuous flow of medicated butter milk to the centre of forehead continuously for up to an hour. It indicated in diseases like psoriasis, mental worries, Insomnia, Chronic headaches, migraine etc.


 
 

Thalam

Thalam is a very olden ayurvedic treatment system in vadodara. Medicated oil, Rasnadichoornam, medicated drug which retained over the head in sealed manner. .Thalam nourishes the brain and enhances the brain cells. It indicated in Insomnia, stress, tension, hemiplegia and neurotic disorders.


 
 

Thalapothichil

It is traditional ayurvedic treatment of vadodara. .It is a special procedure of application of medicated paste on the head. It also indicated in Insomnia, Hypertension, Chronic headaches like migraines, certain skin diseases of scalp like dermatitis of scalp, dandruff, premature greying of hair, epilepsy, anxiety and depression.


 
 

Udwarthana

Udwarthanam is special therapeutic deep tissue massage using herbal powders in vadodara..Udwarthanam means to elevate or promote. It helps to purified the aggravated Kapha dosha, reduces the excess fat accumulated in the subcutaneous tissue also helps in motor neuron disorders, parlcinsonism, muscular dystrophy, hemiplegia, suatica, cerebral palsy, obesity etc.


 
 

Valukasweda

Valuka swedam is done as a rooksha kriya..It can be done in whole body or locally on a specific part. It relieves pain and inflammation. It is indicated in Sandigatavatham and Amavatham etc.
